The film is leaning heavily into the complex relationship that was established in the first Aquaman movie. When it comes to the amount of attention paid to Black Manta, as he wields the Black Trident, the footage is making it clear they are going all out for Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's villainous character. The lack of Heard's Mera is coming months after the actress lost her defamation lawsuit against Johnny Depp, as there have been constant discussions about how it would affect her Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom role, if at all. While the CinemaCon footage may have only featured her briefly, it doesn't necessarily reflect whether Mera has a big storyline in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
